What's my face shape?
Look in the mirror, answer 5 questions, and find your face shape — plus where blush and contour belong on it. Your answers never leave your device.
How to determine your face shape
Pull your hair back and look straight into a mirror. Notice four things: the width of your forehead, the distance between your cheekbones, your jawline, and the length from hairline to chin. Where your face is widest, and how its length compares to its width, mostly decide your shape.
- Forehead: just above the brows, temple to temple.
- Cheekbones: below the outer corners of the eyes, between the two highest points.
- Jawline: from below the ear to the tip of the chin on one side, times two.
- Length: from the middle of the hairline to the tip of the chin.
If you have a tape measure, take these four; if not, comparing them in the mirror is enough. The test turns that comparison into 5 questions.
The 4 face shapes
Oval face shape
Balanced proportions; cheekbones slightly wider, a gently curved jaw. Blush on the cheekbones, sweeping up toward the temples.
Round face shape
Length and width are close; soft lines. Blush diagonally from the cheekbones to the temples to lengthen the face.
Square face shape
Wide forehead and jaw; an angular jawline. Blush in circles on the apples to soften the angles.
Long (oblong) face shape
Clearly longer than wide; straighter sides. Blush horizontally, from the cheekbones toward the ears, to add width.
Questions
Can I find my face shape without a photo?
Yes. Comparing a few proportions in the mirror is usually enough, and this test turns that comparison into 5 questions. For a more consistent measurement, use an app that measures from a selfie.
How does face shape affect makeup?
It decides where blush, contour and highlighter go. The point isn't to force your face into a template — it's to bring out your own proportions.
I'm between two shapes. Which one is right?
Most faces sit between two shapes. The test shows your closest shape and, if there is one, the next closest — try the tips from both.
Where does blush go for my face shape?
On an oval face, on the cheekbones sweeping up toward the temples; on a round face, diagonally from the cheekbones to the temples; on a square face, in circles on the apples of the cheeks; on a long face, horizontally toward the ears. Your result also includes contour and highlighter tips for your shape.
Are my answers saved anywhere?
No. The test runs entirely in your browser; your answers are never sent to a server or stored.
